Q: The result of the U.S. presidential election has been announced. Obama and Biden were respectively elected as the next President and Vice President of the United States. Do you have any comment?

A: After the result of the U.S. presidential election was announced on November 5, President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent congratulatory messages to Obama on his election as the 44th President of the United States. Vice President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to Mr. Biden on his election as Vice President of the United States.

As President Hu Jintao has pointed out in his congratulatory message, China and the United States share broad common interests and important responsibilities on a wide range of major issues concerning the well-being of humanity. To grow long-term healthy and stable China-US relations serves the fundamental interests of our countries and peoples and is of great significance to the maintenance and promotion of peace, stability and development in the world. China stands ready to work together with the U.S. to continuously strengthen dialogues, exchanges and cooperation in all fields between our two countries and enhance our mutual understanding and trust on the basis of the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, with a view to promoting the development of our constructive and cooperative relationship and bringing greater benefits to people of our two countries and the rest of the world.
