On July 29, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held talks in the Foreign Ministry with visiting Sudanese President's special envoy Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, also Sudan's Minister of Finance and National Economy. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral ties and the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor's charge against the Sudanese leader.
