On July 25, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun made a special trip to Guangzhou to meet with visiting Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo Antoine Gizenga Fundji and his wife and gave a dinner in their honor. Zhai spoke highly of bilateral ties, saying that the Chinese government cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries and is ready to join hands with the Congolese side to push their friendly cooperative relations to a higher level. Gizenga expressed sincere gratitude for China's thoughtful arrangements, reaffirming that the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to work with China to push for in-depth development of bilateral friendly cooperation in all areas.
